Is this because the google+ thing has been removed?

No, it's because Google Changed the rules on linking accounts and it's super complicated to get fixed. So it's not fixed yet

Confirming this:
as of March 13th 2021, Google still blocks the app.

can confirm as a new regester but a aprox 6month sub to youtube

At time of writing it's not been fixed yet. I'll reply here when it has.
