Engage in challenging real-time fights with various bosses and creatures from the Nether in the game’s many PvE campaigns and events or dive into some epic PvP action with other players’ teams. If you enjoy mythical browser-based MMORPGs, you’ll definitely like playing Gods Origin Online!

Plotline

Gods Origin Online is a mythological game and thus, in terms of its storyline, you can expect a lot of god-to-god drama. In the game world, most of the gods or goddesses have abandoned their principles and ethics in pursuit of power and were eventually corrupted. However, a few of them remained true to their cause and they are willing to aid you, the chosen human summoner, to remind the corrupted deities who they truly serve and hopefully be able to save the world before they manage to burn everything down.

Gameplay

Before plunging into the fantasy world of Gods Origin Online, you’ll first need to create your character. The game provides you with two classes, namely the swordsman/ warrior and the magician, to choose from. Although you can’t customize the looks of your character, you are allowed to choose to play as either a male or a female.

As you might have expected, Gods Origin Online is a party-based game. This means that even though you’ll start the game off alone, you’ll eventually be able to assemble a team of deities who will aid you in your quest to save the world from the power-hungry gods and goddesses of old. The main way to recruit a new deity to your cause is by gathering enough deity fragments, but sometimes, if you’re lucky, you can get a complete deity by summoning (usually the premium summons) as well.

The power level for each deity is restricted by their tiers. Naturally as you level up, you’ll want to get better and higher-tiered deities to join your team. Don’t forget to deploy your new deities in your team’s formation or they won’t be able to help you out!

That said, there are many ways you can upgrade your deities – you can level them up using EXP books, ascend them to improve their quality rating and hence boosting their stats, upgrading their skills, or even replacing their weaker sets of armor with better ones. The equipment they use can also be augmented in a multitude of ways, be it by inlaying gems or by simply by upgrading them.

The same applies to your main character. You’ll be basically leveling yourself up, improving the weapons and armor you use, and ascending yourself to increase your quality. Interestingly though, unlike your deities, you have a rather unique talents system. It is tier-based rather than being a tree- or a web-based format, and you can incrementally boost the skills you use by simply moving on from the lowest Uncommon tier right up to the most powerful Ancient tier.

Every upgrade you do for your character or your team will boost your overall Battle Power (BP) rating as well. This rating is the perfect indication of how strong your team is. Due to this, it is advisable to avoid taking on enemies, be it AIs or other players, who have BP rating that are higher than yours... unless that is you aim to lose.

Now talking about winning and losing, the main way to determine this is by combat, and Gods Origin Online has a very unique way of approaching this. Unlike most games which implements a turn -based system, combat is pretty much set in real-time. This means that you don’t actually have to wait for your turn to attack. Instead, your attacks are restricted by the MP you have. MP on the other hand keeps regenerating at a rather rapid pace during combat.

You’ll also have access to a quick spell bar where 3 of your best spells is shown. These are your main abilities to use during combat. One of which is an interrupt spell that is incredibly crucial especially during boss fights. This is because bosses in this game happen to often have a somewhat long-casting ability which can cause some tremendous damage, usually to the entire team. The only way to counter this is by using an interrupt spell, obviously, but this also means that you’ll need to save up a bit of your MP just so you can cast the interrupt spell at the correct moment.

Every single damage you deal will charge up your ultimate skill and naturally, being an ultimate skill, you can expect it to cause a lot of pain to your opponents. Gods Origin Online forces you to play each combat scenario manually at first but at around level 15, the auto-combat option is unlocked and you can breeze through levels a lot quickly. However, as mentioned in the previous paragraph, you will still need to pay attention during boss fights and make sure you have enough MP to counter the boss’s casting. If not, your team should have enough HP to weather through the damage.

There is also another interesting and rather unique aspect in the game’s combat system – the Sacred Plane mode. At certain times during combat, this mode will start flashing and you will be able to trigger the effect, granting you and your team massive boosts along with some healing. It’s nice to note that the game provides you with a bit of respite in between attack rounds as well. During this time, you will have access to your menu bar so you can perform some upgrades in preparation for the tougher fight ahead.

Similar to most browser-based MMORPGs, Gods Origin Online provides players with plenty of PvE and PvP options. For PvE for example, you can move the storyline along via the chapter-based campaign missions, farm for specific upgrade materials through Fate or the Mount Trials, work cooperatively with other players to conquer various dungeons or set off on an exciting Adventure. The PvP enthusiasts though, the PvP arenas will be unlocked later on after you’ve completed a certain stage in Chapter 3 of the campaign.

The in-game shop in Gods Origin Online is similar to most free-to-play browser MMO that you might have played before. Although there are plenty of what seemingly look like pay-to-win elements, you can actually climb your way to the top through sheer effort, commitment and a dash of luck. However, the gulf between spenders and non-spenders is still there though since they can easily by pass a lot of the restriction and farming processes, and sometimes get exclusive deities simply by spending their premium currency (Pyrum).

There are many more features in this game ranging from mounts which provide additional stats only, wings for your deities, and more. However, aside from the little thing about its monetization method, I do have one more major qualm about the game... despite the different equipment we have on, everyone’s characters just look the same. The only thing that changes is the weapon. It would be nice to have a different appearance based on the equipment you have on.

The guild feature in this game is only unlocked at level 21. It’s a bit late admittedly, but boy, you won’t ever regret joining a guild. In fact, you should do so as soon as you are able to.

By being part of a guild, you’ll not only gain access to special guild-only features like the guild skills, guild-wide bonuses, wages (free daily gold) and cooperative events like exciting guild wars, Challenges, Guild Tasks, and Guild Bounty. Of course, in exchange for all of these benefits, you’ll be expected to donate some of your game currency, or if you’re incredibly generous, Pyrums, to help the guild level up and unlock even more and better features for all members of the guild.

Starting a guild is quite affordable as well. By the time you are level 21, you should have amassed quite an amount of gold and that is all you need to create a guild.

Graphics/ Sound

The graphics in Gods Origin Online is simply amazing for a browser game. Granted that I’ve seen some games with slighter nicer visuals, the art in this game is pretty top-notch. The only unfortunate thing is that the game tends to recycle a lot of their graphics, especially their monster models and some of the backgrounds. It’d be nice to switch it up a bit.

In terms of sound, I’ve got to admit the music in this game, although it’s nice and all, does sound a tad bit familiar. I’m not sure where I’ve heard this exact soundtrack before but I’m pretty sure it was in another browser MMORPG. That said, the music is long enough so that it doesn’t sound too repetitive even when looped.

Conclusion

All in all, Gods Origin Online may look and feel like your average browser MMORPG, but trust me, it isn’t 100% exactly the same. The game has a pretty nice combat system that actually makes paying attention important, giving you a crucial role to play even if you’re using auto-combat. The game also has some really nice visuals and sound too. So, if you’re a fan of browser MMORPGs, now’s your chance to be the first to get to the top! The game was only launched yesterday so you can still beat the crowd and secure a comfortable position on the leaderboard before the dam breaks and everyone start flooding into the game.
