Heya, long time lurker in the land of Cohhilition that got some questions for the more tech savy people here :)

I have a PC thats abit older than 2 years and been wondering if there is any "single part" that would make a proper impact on gaming etc, like get a new GPU or CPU or or or! Not very good with hardware names and such so i'll copy paste my old order so there might sneak in a norwegian word here and there:

Cooler Master G750M, 750W PSU
ATX 12V V2.3, 80 Plus Bronze, Modular, 4x 6+2pin PCIe, 8x SATA, 6x Molex, 1x FD

Intel Core i7-5820K, Socket-LGA2011-3
Prosessor, 6-Core, 3.3GHz, 15MB, 140W, 22nm, 28 PCIe lanes

Intel Air Cooling TS13A
Prosessorcooler for Socket-LGA2011-3, Boxed

Gigabyte GA-X99-UD3, Socket 2011-3
Motherboard, ATX, X99, 4xDDR4, 4xPCIe-x16, SLI/CFX, M.2, SATA-Express

2x Crucial DDR4 2133MHz 8GB (2x4GB)
8GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR4 2133 MT/s (PC4-17000) CL15 SR x8 Unbuffered DIMM 288pin

MSI GeForce GTX 980 4GB PhysX CUDA
PCI-Express 3.0, DL-DVI-I, HDMI 2.0, 3x DisplayPort, UEFI

Crucial MX100 SSD 256GB 2,5" 7mm
SATA 3.0 6GB/s, 9,5mm adapter, 550/330Mb/s read/write

WD Desktop Green 2TB
SATA 6Gb/s, (SATA 3.0), RPM = IntelliPower, 64MB, 3.5"

Any tip is appreciated, have felt that the PC have been underperforming but according to the place I bought this thing it works "as intended" apparently.

can you give examples on "underperforming"

The base clock speed of the i7-5820k is lower than that of most new i5 and i7s. Not many games take advantages of the multiple cores past quadcore so for gaming a higher single core clock speed is better. Like the new i7-7700k which has a clock speed of 4.2Ghz.

Or you could start OCing your processor but only do this if you know what you are doing, you can easily get 4.0 Ghz with it. If you are interested in doing this, there are enough guides out there on how to achieve this, although be carefull with it.

Abit difficult to properly describe it but I keep getting stutters and/or fps lag in more or less all games that I play, be it Path of Exile, World of Warcraft, GTA V, Dragon's Dogma, Skyrim, Dying Light... I could keep going through my game list on Steam, can't actually think of 1 game that there haven't been an issue with.

And by fps lag I mean that even if a fps counter shows 100+ it feels like the gameplay is getting dragged through syrup or any other "slowing fluid", if that makes any sense at all o_O

And in regards of doing OC, really dont think im that tech savvy to do something like that safely, not unless there's some programme that can be used or something?

The lag could have to do with the refresh rate of your monitor, if you are used to a high refresh rate like 144hz then going back to 60hz can make it feel alot like what you are describing. Fps is not equal to refresh rate, which is what you see.

Thats one of the things I have wondered about, I do have a 120hz monitor thats like 5+ years old. But I've played games with 60 fps that havent felt "laggy" so dont think thats the issue.

Did find a guide for an OC that was for my processor and the fella had the same bios as me so now I got a stable 4.0 Ghz OC going, still seeing the fps lag etc so I am considering maybe getting a new GPU but unsure if my other hardware is decent enough that a new GPU would be worth it.

Have you tried benchmarking with for instance, 3DMark?
Highly doubt the GPU is the problem,
Tried installing a game on a SSD?

I did run the Fire Strike benchmark some time ago, I dont remember the scores acurately but I remember that the physics score was around 5000, which to me seemed very low.

EDIT: Seems the 5k score was the total one, just downloaded the test and ran it and these are the results:

No big differences compared to the other results from 3dmark so don't think the problem lays at either the CPU or the GPU.
Could be a problem with windows 10, seems some other people with high end pcs had problems like this.
Update graphics drivers if possible.

I don't think your CPU and GPU are in need of update.
If updating graphics drivers doesn't help, uninstall old driver with DDU: http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/dis ... nload.html

You should also check your memory, frame los/drops can be a issue with either bad memory settings in the bios or not realy compatible with the mainbord or defect. if its not realy compatible you can also try upgrading your bios to a newer version, those usealy also updates the memory compatibility table.

The software i use to test my memory is Memtest86, just use the free edition and let it run atleast 3 full runs to see how they are holding up.
You should also read on the manufactoring website of the mainboard what the features are of the latest bios.
