Help me choose a VR headset?

Hi, so I've been pondering what VR headset for a long while now, and made very little progress. There seems to be too much to take into consideration, and I'm torn between a couple of options.
Do I go for the reliable starter in the form of the Oculus Rift S or do I go all out and get the Valve Index? I've been using this comparison article as a guide for now, but I'd really like to hear from someone who's actually used one, or preferably both, of these.
Could you let me know if you think the substantially higher price is worthwhile?. Do you really get enough of an improvement that it justifies shelling out so much extra?
