Nother vote for trying "Dungeon Nightmares II: The Memory" on steam. It's a recent release and with procedural gen and some interesting AI (supposedly), it looks like it could be pretty good!

Blank Dream. http://rpgmaker.net/games/8094/

Blank Dream is a freeware horror-exploration game by Kanawo (of Teriyaki Tomato) made in RPG Maker VX Ace.

It's a RPG like horror. And the story is NOPE.

I suggest trying Pineview Drive, has the best ambience in a horror game.

I would suggest playing Pineview Drive, has the best ambience of any horror game. And has some pretty good jump scares. Also a Jeepers Creepers Scarecrow

Couple games that come to mind and weren't listed in the opening post yet:
  • Catherine [PS3, X360]
  • Condemned: Criminal Origins [PC, X360]
  • Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem [GameCube]
  • Fatal Frame (franchise) [PS2, PS3, Xbox, Wii, Wii U]
  • F.E.A.R. [PC, PS3, X360]
  • LIMBO [PC, PS3, PS4, X360, Xbox One, Wii U]
  • Lone Survivor [PC, PS3, PS4, Wii U]
  • P.T. [PS4]
  • Resident Evil HD Remastered [PC, PS4, Xbox One]
  • Silent Hill 2 [PS2]
  • Slender: The Arrival [PC, PS3, PS4, X360, Xbox One]
  • S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (franchise) [PC]
  • Thief (original trilogy) [PC]
It is a bit debatable whatever Catherine should count as a horror game that makes you go "NOPE" but it is such a dang good game with some horror elements that I just had to include it in the list.

Then there are bunch of good action comedy games with horror elements (like most games by Suda51 :D ) but I decided to leave them out as they don't really make you go "NOPE" rather than "WTH, eww, lol".

F.E.A.R. - Old but really good. They were really good at matching the action and horror. The game also sports some excellent examples of A.I. that many modern developers could learn from.

Dead Space series. While the second and third games moved further and further from the horror aspect, they both have good nope-moments and several moments of environmental storytelling that makes the flesh crawl.

I would love to see:
Knock-knock: pretty creepy, game mechanics are fun to figure out, cool artstyle http://store.steampowered.com/app/250380/
The Cat Lady: awesome story, amazing soundtrack, memorable characters http://store.steampowered.com/app/253110/
I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream: classic, great story http://store.steampowered.com/app/245390/

Aside from that: P.T., Until Dawn, Silent Hill franchise, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter

The Long Dark could be a good one, not quite a scary game as such, but with the survival aspect added on to complete isolation it can end up being pretty chilling http://store.steampowered.com/app/305620/

My recommendations are rather short, as the only ones I can really recommend are the Resident Evil games, Silent Hill, and Parasite Eve (though it is a rather older game it'd be nice to see it again). That's about as scary as I can handle. Enjoy Nopetober folks! :D

The Suffering 1&2 came to mind like flashback from youth when my mind was rookie to horror games.
I tried to find the games from Steam but sadly there was none.

All other good games have been mentioned already. So back to lurkā„¢

Pineview Drive

Has some nice spooks, but can get tedious and drawn out haha. But if you want some spooks, why not. :P
If you haven't played it already ofc.

Hey, Cohh:

Sunless Sea is an exploration/narrative game for the most part, really good with the immersion and projecting a very unsettling feeling throughout your journey. I wouldn't suggest it as a primary choice for NOPEtober due to it not really being a "Scary" (Read: Jumpscare) game, but I would recommend it as one that can... definitely create some very unsettling (and Lovecraftian) vibes.

Basically, you are the captain of a ship on the Unterzee, a giant, underground ocean where the normal laws and natural elements of our world don't apply. It's a "rogue-Light", with each of your captains being one "Life", your "descendants" being the captain of each subsequent game. Most of the gameplay elements revolve around managing your ship's fuel, food, and the mental health of you and your crew as you voyage to other ports, experiencing the stories and events of each island (The vast Majority of which are presented as "Choose your own adventure" type novellas) until you need to return to your home port to replenish supplies and mentally recover.

It took me about 60 hours to beat the game, so I don't see Cohh completing it for NOPEtober, but really... this game is definitely one of the Journey rather than the Destination. Not to mention, I believe it would be quite a fresh experience for most of the viewers on the channel, as I think the only streamer who really did anything with the game was Excessive Profanity back during its release in February.

Also, the music is amazing:

EDIT: Well, the music is amazing... yet it seems in the short time between making this post and now, the YouTube account that held the samples I had originally posted was deleted... Here's a replacement, albeit not as spooky:
