Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. I put hundreds of hours into that game before even realizing there was a main quest...
The only reason I don't pick UT 99 - my most played game of all time (next to WoW which I simply can't count), is because it didn't captivate me like Morrowind did. I felt apart of the TES universe at every moment. I bled TES. Of course, I made tons of friends in UT and we had a killer community for multiple years straight, and it'll always be a special game to me, but it never had me pulling all nighters, deep in the RP of the world of Morrowind.
