I'm looking at buying one of the Alienware Alphas in the next week or so. I grew up playing PC games, but over last few years have gone strictly console. I really want to get back into PC gaming but don't want to give up the comfort of my couch. I also like the idea of it being able to switch over to the steam os when that's available. What are everyone's thoughts? Here are the specs for the one I'm looking at:

For what I see, I don't think I would buy the Alienware Alpha.

First off, The device is limited in what you can have/upgrade. It looks like when you use the device, you are limited to the specs that you have.... If you want to upgrade, you would have to buy a whole new computer. Now this wouldn't be a big issue with the price point, but I think the specs are a little low at its current state. The PC I am trying to upgrade right now has 8gb already and I want to upgrade it to 32gb. With this device you are already running with a good sized processor, decent graphics card and for a gaming computer the lowest I would say for the ram. I looked at the reviews on CNET and basically the gaming is pretty decent on the device on medium settings with an i3 4gb ram device. However, I don't think the device will keep up after a year with new generation of gaming coming out although looking at the reviews even the i3 surpasses some i7 devices so it might be very promising.However, I do think I would just stick to a console if this was the case as PS4 & XBox One provide a true console gaming experience with a entertainment system for the TV without any things to pop up that may require a mouse and keyboard (because this device is a windows computer you may get one or two pop-ups at start-up telling you about something as is what CNET experienced.) The other thing is PS4 and XBox One will last for many years with the 360 lasting for I think 8 years. It is ultimately up to what you want for the device as it will provide what I would think would be more of a universal support with the TV when it comes to multimedia but I would utilize a different non-gaming system if that is the case.

If there is something that I missed in your situation though or if I missed some key points, please let me know. I always like to know what miss information I am providing.

here's my proposition for a gaming computer in the livingroom. its faster in almost every way, its costs 80$ more but so much more value
