Hello and Welcome to this little Guide to some of the Mechanics/Functionalities of Dragons Dogma.

Obviously this is not for People who just wanna play and not think about Mechanics etc. or missing out on Things. :)

Firstly:
There is only 1(!) Character Save. (Speedrun Mode excluded)
(Except if they changed that for the PC Version but I dont believe so)
So it is important that you take all the Time you can with the Creation of your Character.

There are 2 Options for changing your Character.
1 - Entering NG+ you get another Chance.
2 - You can buy an Item for Rift Crystals. (It is not cheap)

You can start the Game in Easy/Normal Mode, Hard Mode or Speedrunner Mode.

Hard Mode:

Enemy damage is doubled.
The Arisen's stamina usage is accelerated.
Enemies drop proportionately more gold when killed.
Experience Points are doubled.
Discipline Points are doubled.
Rift Crystal earnings by the Arisen's rented pawns are doubled.
You get 2 diffrent Armor Sets for doing the Quest leading into End Game and the very final Quest

Speedrunner Mode:
Beating the Game within a certain Timeframe gives you a new Armor for Male and Female Characters.
(Speedrun Save is seperate from the Easy/Normal/Hard Mode one)

Creating your Character:

Height and Weight:

Your Height and Weight Influence your Carry Limit, Stamina Consumption and your Walking Speed and other Things. (read below *edit :V)

Weight is influenced by Height, Character Build and Musculature.

The Lighter you are the faster is your Stamina Recovery, Movement Speed
The Heavier you are the more you can Carry, less Stamina is used and the Knockdown Ressistance goes up.

Theres some more Things that it affects. Link to the Wiki Page for more Details.

Your Height influences your Walking (not running) Speed, Weapon Reach, Accessibility to certain Spots, Hurtbox

More Details.

Choosing your Starting Vocation/Class:

Your starting Classes have Variations in Stats and depending on what Class you are when getting a Level up gets you a diffrent Amount of Stats.

Starting Stats
Fighter: HP 450 / Stamina 540 / Phys. Attack 80 / Defense 80 / Magic Atk. 60 / Magic Def. 60
Strider: HP 430 / Stamina 540 / Phys. Attack 70 / Defense 70 / Magic Atk. 70 / Magic Def. 70
Mage: HP 410 / Stamina 540 / Phys. Attack 60 / Defense 60 / Magic Atk. 80 / Magic Def. 80

Every level 1->10

Pawns:

Pawns are your AI controlled Party Members.
You can have up to 3 Pawns.
1 Your own Pawn 2 Premade / Playermade Pawn from the Nexus
You can (and should) take care of your own Pawns Equipment and Skills.
Pawns get better at dealing with Monsters and Places when you take them there/fight them. (Sometimes associated with Sidequests)

Your Pawn can be gifted Items from other Players when they play with them.
They also get Rift Crystals, Knowledge and EP for beeing used by other Players.

Pawn Inclinations:

Because Pawns are AI controlled there isn't much you can do about their Behaviour in Combat.
When you create your own, there is a Variety of "Personalities" to choose from.
(This can be changed with Rift Crystals I believe)
Sadly most of them are vaguely formulated.
Heres a List of what they do:

Inclinations:

Nexus: The pawn will aid other pawns in the party.
Pioneer: The pawn will scout ahead and be on the look out for incoming danger.
Guardian: The pawn will stay near and guard the Arisen.
Medicant: The pawn will heal and keep the party alive.
Acquisitor: The pawn will search the area for items regardless of the situation.
Challenger: The pawn will attack enemies using ranged or magick first.
Scather: The pawn will attack stronger enemies first.
Mitigator: The pawn will attack weaker enemies first.
Utilitarian: The pawn will adapt its strategies to give allies advantages.

General Mechanics:

Teleportation:

Teleporting uses Ferrystones. With the PC Version there will be an Infinite Ferrystone within the Chest at the Pawn Camp. If it is missed Ferrystones can be bought for 1900 Gold each in Gran Soren.

Teleportcrystals are how you can cover a lot of Landmass quickly.
Teleportcrystals can be bought at the Black Cat (Price?) or be found in various Spots around the World.
A Teleportcrystal has to be set up to be teleported to.
They can't be set up within Cities (But just outside works fine)
All Teleportcrystals that have been set up will be saved when you enter NG+ so you don't have to do that again.

Dragonforging:

While it is possible to just Upgrade your Items it is "easiest" to just Dragonforge them.
I do not advise to wait for Dragonforging on your first playthrough though - so just Upgrade away.

Dragonforging means that the Item is beeing "maxed" in its Upgrades.
This can happen when killing a Type of Dragon. (Wyrms, Wyvern etc. count too)
Depending on the "Strength" of the Dragon the Chance of one or multiple Items beeing Dragonforged are increased.

WARNING SPOILERS IN LINK:
Heres a List of what can Dragonforge your Gear and how high the Chance is.
http://dragonsdogma.wiki.fextralife.com/Dragonforging

Rarifying: (ONLY Bitterblack Isle - Late Game)

This is a Mechanic introduced with Dark Arisen.
It is a way to further increase the Strength of your Gear by investing Materials and Rift Crystals.
The Item has to be Dragonforged or Rarified to be (further) Rarified

Late-Game Spoiler-ish Stuff:
http://dragonsdogma.wiki.fextralife.com/Rarifying

Item Dupping:
Every Item (even Quest Items) can be duplicated at the "Black Cat" in Gran Soren.
Costs vary heavily.
No more Information because that could spoil stuff.

World States (Progress?):

There is a lot of Information to digest. http://dragonsdogma.wiki.fextralife.com ... ion+Stages
Shows just the Quest-Names. So it shouldnt spoil anything.

The most important Things to Note about the World State:
1 - Escort Quests are linked with the State of the World. Do them before you move on.
2 - Entering Endgame (or beeing around lvl 55) is the best Spot to be starting Bitterblack Isle, which is the Addon Content.
Bitterblack Isle is the "AddOn" Content and is significantly harder (in Sections) than the Base Game.

Bitterblack Isle is accessed by talking to the NPC Olra at Night on the Pier of Cassardis.

I hope this is somewhat helpful.
Sadly, I didn't add information about Classes/Vocation if somebody wants they can gladly add it.

I heared that the Mouse and Keyboard works pretty well and might be better than a Pad in some regards - but its all supported
