Classics or Re-releases?

Hey guys,

Growing up I got a lot of used games based on how the back of the case looked, then got hooked into MMOs, so I have a huge list of great games I haven't yet played. Going back to them now, I'm curious as to whether I should play the original versions (SNES for example) or newer versions (GBA/Steam/eShop/etc.)

The main series I'm looking at for this are Golden Sun, Breath of Fire, Fire Emblem, and Final Fantasy. Most opinions I find online are heavy with nostalgia, I'm more interested in anything seriously game-breaking that would ruin the experience for a first timer.

Also, what is a generally good capture card/device for old gaming systems? (SNES, N64, Gamecube, PS1/2) I have an Elgato HD60 and Avermedia LGX, but have yet to try them for this.

Thanks for any advice and opinions!

is sounds like you physically own these games so you wouldn't have to drop a boatload of money on them today? If so I would play the original carts/discs to get the experience as intended. I have most of my older systems hooked up and play them regularly.

Offhand I don't know anything about capture card stuff.

I have access to most of the systems, but a lot of the games I'd have to buy. Or ask around to see if any friends have them around.
