Hey guys,

I just started out with DS2 Softs, i have some questions regarding some of the stuff in this game.

1: Souls, where do i spend them and how should i spend them

2: The Estus Flask, seems to have a low stack at the start. 1 time use only? where do i go to upgrade and what do i need?

3: Weapons and stats. I prefer to go either 2 handed or 2 1-handeds. But wich kind of weapons should i go for also how do i combine them if they need diffrent stats?

4: Where do i need to go first and stuff, ive played this game for like 3 hours and there doesnt really seem to be any 1 place to go, but since i know some area's have stronger creatures in them i would love a guide.

  • You spend souls at the Maiden. After talking to her a few times she will allow you to spend souls on leveling.
  • How you spend souls depends on the build you want. This wiki site will help you build out characters since you are new http://darksouls2.wiki.fextralife.com/P ... +engine%29
  • You will find estus flask shards, these will increase the amount of flasks you get when you rest at a bonfire. This will spoil the exploring aspect of the game however this site has a complete overview of where you can find them http://darksouls2.wiki.fextralife.com/Estus+Flask+Shard
  • If you want to dual-wield you may want to power stance (attacking with both weapons at the same time). If this to happen you will have to have 1.5x the stat requirement. Example if a weapon requires 12 strength and 15 dex, take 12 times 1.5 and 15 times 1.5, this will be the stat required for that weapon.
  • If you just want to 2 hand the weapon, while you can get the minimum stat requirements, it is possible to cheese the numbers if you use both hands.
  • You can dual wield any combination of weapons however if you want to attack with both weapons, then you want to power stance.
  • Starting in Majula, you can go north west into an area with massive giant creatures or south west into a forest area. Once you get a Yule branch (removes petrifaction) you can go to other areas. You can also buy a ring that reduces fall damage from the cat merchant and try going down the massive well in Majula.
If you need a visual guide this might help. It is a few videos of me going through the game. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... Z-S5OzozFm

Hey there.

So I actually am working through DS2:Scholar of the First Sin (sotfs) for the first time. I've beaten the original DS2+DLC before but wanted to roll through again before DS3. Yeah, I know, real original...haha. With that said, I've got a few tips that I've picked up during this play through and figured this would be a good thread to share.

***** POSSIBLE SPOILERS BELOW! NOT STORY BUT TO AVOID NPC/ITEM INFO DON'T READ PAST #5 *****

1. Get a bow (crossbow) whichever you can find ASAP. The headaches you can avoid (especially in the god forsaken No-Mans Wharf) will save your sanity. Cheap arrows/bolts (Blacksmith sells them) work just fine and with decent DEX (11-12) you're in business. But even just enough to use the weapon should be sufficient.

2. With a bow or crossbow, equip in the right hand and then Power Stance (Y button on XB1 controller). Then hold down the left bumper and this will zoom in the weapon and give you a targeting UI. You can then line up the shot and tap the right bumper to fire. This isn't as widely known as I thought but really helps when you can't auto lock on due to distance.

3. Simple tip, but again, one that I find people don't know about especially if they are used to the mechanic in DS1. Use the "A" button (XB1 Controller) to open Illusory (hidden) Walls in DS2. In DS1, you had to attack the walls to reveal them but they changed it for this game. It's much nicer IMO because you can just spam it running along walls to look for them instead of constantly having to attack.

4. Don't spread your points around too much. If you have a build you are going for (STR, DEX, or FTH, etc) get that stat to 20 and then move on to the next. It's fine to put a point or two into HP/Stam before that if you feel you need for survival but keep your focus on your main stat. Keeping it to 20 is pretty standard practice as that's a mini "Soft Cap" until later on.

5. Depending on if you consider it "cheating" or not, this little Mod has been great and made the game more enjoyable for me.
Dark Souls II FOV Fix (for original game and Scholar of the First Sin) - http://www.nexusmods.com/darksouls2/mods/644/?

It is a standalone program that you simply start up before the game. No special installation required and you can control it very easily in game. The default FOV that is set in DS2 almost makes me feel claustrophobic and this helps tremendously. Make sure and read the description on the page for helpful info.

6. The Old Witch Hag lady you find by the second bonfire in Forest of the Giants (first real zone you work through) is incredibly useful to have back in Majula (level up bonfire). She sells an unlimited amount of heal stones and with having so few Estus Flask charges early this helps make the pain a lot easier to deal with. Once you exhaust her dialog it takes a couple hours and game re-loads for her to move from the bonfire. She only sells 10 of the stones at the bonfire you find her, so getting to her early so she'll move is a good move IMO.

7. The forlorn merchant in the house across from the pit in Majula has a great armor (Tseldora) set that gives extra souls for each kill. The only problem is that you have to kill him in order for it to drop, he doesn't sell it. He doesn't really sell much of anything useful anyway and you can resurrect him later on if you absolutely have to. However, I know some people don't like to kill NPC's (especially merchants) but if you want a great set to farm souls with I'd kill him early.

8. The knight at the top of the tower in Majula will invite you into the Blue covenant if you exhaust all his dialog. Takes a bit because he talks a lot but entering that covenant is good early game because you get a ring from him that ups your HP by about 25 IIRC. The covenant itself is kind of meh if you don't do co-op/invasion play but the ring is really nice early on. No downside to it other than you have to get him through all the dialog.

*******************************************

There is a lot more but I think this will help you early game. Hope you enjoy it and take care.

Thanks for you're tips guys.

I still have some questions though.

1: Some doors wich i can't go through, but it states it can be burned. How do i do that? I know how the torch thing works, 10 mins after a bonfire? and then what?

2: Im wandering around in Majula and going to some places, but i have clue whether or not i should be at those places.. Is there a way to find out where i should go next? or should i just go to these places and try to slaughter everything? xD

3: I chose a Knight as class, they have alot of Str. Some of the weapons/shield i got req higher Dex. Should i level up my Dex aswell? or just wait till i get better heavy weapons?
