In order to make community events easier to organise, it'll be nice to let us know what class you plan on using first or what you plan to main. This doesn't include any secondary classes/jobs - cross class skills etc etc. This is just a single class.
To make this easier for people - Quick Reference Guide:
Archer - Ranged Damage class. Fits a Support role due to their debuffing skills.
Arcanist - Magical Ranged class. Can fit a number of roles but mostly Damage or Support.Debuff
Gladiator - Close Combat class. Main Tanker but could be fitting to become a Damage Dealer
Pugilist - Close Combat Class. Main Damage class - /MIGHT/ be able to become an Avoidance tank
Conjurer - Magical Ranged Class - Main healing class with support buffs such as Protect.
Thaumaturge - Magical Ranged class. Large damage output with emphasis on Area of Effects.
Lancer - Close combat class - main damage class - From what I can tell, this is their main focus. Their light armour is not viable for tanking (Theorycraft)
Marauder - Close combat class - high DPS output - plausible to become a tank due to their heavy armour(early Theorycrafting)
Again this is for your "main" class. The one you're starting out with. In no way are you restricted to this class. If you happen to have a high leveled Conjurer and the cohhmunity needs a healer then by all means switch over. Being able to adapt to suit different groups is a good thing.
As for myself. It's no secret that I'll be using Arcanist at the beginning. I love Carbuncle too much to abandon him/her.
