D&D 3.5 - Virtual Pen, Paper, and table

Hey Cohhilition!

What is below happened out of a conversation late night (my time) that Midnightive and I had with a couple others in the chat.

Some people have never had the opportunity to play a pen and paper game and have always wanted the chance. I was lucky enough to have a huge group twice in my life that regularly got together and played a number of games in addition to D&D. I am sure there are others that would like to just watch the way things unfold. And never fear, you can watch both Cohh and the table top with Multitwitch!
http://www.multitwitch.tv/cohhcarnage/leraje148

And now, I would like to open up the discussion, and player spaces to the Cohhmunity.

The DM: Me

The venue: Roll20.net (Campaign link: https://app.roll20.net/join/237733/LJS-PQ) This link isn't going to show much as I will be working on getting the table setup and whatnot, but it will let you setup an account (free) and get you to the playspace. For the main page for Roll20.net, it's http://roll20.net .

The ruleset: D&D 3.5 (I have nearly all the books for this)

The time: Like most pen and paper games, this will probably be weekly for the whole group most likely Saturdays, with some times in the week to run individual adventures and one-offs during the week at sporadic times. I am in the Central Time Zone in the U.S. GMT-5/6.

The limitations: Yeah, there had to be some...

Because this is a new venue, I'd like to keep the twists down until I can get a grip on all Roll20.net has to offer. So keeping that in mind....

- No evil alignments. Maybe later, but not to start.

- Standard races in the Players Handbook (Human, Dwarf, Elf, Gnome, Half-Elf, Half-Orc, Halfling)

Well, this is a start, and I'll edit as I think of more and things are brought to my attention.

(Edit to add timezone info, DM and more venue info.)

Update! Oct 29

The first playmap is done. So I'd like to have whomever is interested in playing get with me and jump into the virtual table and do a little messing around with using the interface so it's not foreign as well as perhaps getting me copies of your character sheets.

I love the idea. I haven't played D&D since I was a kid (25-30 years ago) and would love to get into this. I have watched a few streams play and am interested in participating. I will check the website and try to get familiar with it. I plan on starting to stream late nights after Cohh is done and this would be a good one to stream. I am assuming you will be the DM. Keep posting info as you get replies.

Yes, I would be the DM and you can check out http://roll20.net for more info about the virtual table. (Edited OP to reflect this, too).

I just watched the video on roll20 and I must say, they've pretty much thought of everything there. I hope you know how to use the site because it seems pretty complex. I learn best by doing so the video is about all i'm going to study. Hope you're ready to teach.

Yeah, it looks like they have thought of everything and I have been toying with it along with Midnightive. Feel free to use the Campaign link and peek in whenever you like as I go through putting the site through it's paces in the coming week and get ready for the upcoming game(s).

I would love to play in this. Ive been looking for a DnD group locally, but most of them are full or very far into campaigns. I cant stand 4.0, so a 3.5 game would be great! Any limits on what classes to start, besides non-evil?

I've never gotten into D&D... And that makes me sad... I wanted to play when I was younger, but no one else was willing to be cool and play. LOL! I'd have to learn EVERYTHING!

hey guys and gals, this is a great idea ! :D

I actually play with 2 groups, sadly one is saturdays (afternoon EST) so i dunno if i could join you, depending on time.

I know plenty about roll20 Leraje so if you have questions hit me up.
What my groups do is this, we all have plus.google.com accounts and we use the hangouts feature to get everyone on cam and the hangouts have a roll20 app that embeds the roll20 site into it.
I also have a DDI subscription so I can create characters and help anyone who wants one create one.
I do believe roll20 is better suited for running DnD4e, though i'm not sure how different that and 3.5 are since i've only ever played 4e.

If you guys have a group and still have a spot open, i'd love to roll character and hop in with you.

Have you thought about maybe playing it on twitch and streaming it? I believe I've seen people doing that with Skype, but i dunno for sure.

I've been in the shadows... Watching...

But what's different? LOL! It's what I do in the stream...

Anyway... Yeah, I'm interested... If it works out, I may jump in. I'm just a total noob.

I am very interested. I haven't played in years. I used to ALWAYS be DM but would look forward to playing a PC for once. I've never tried playing online so that is a first. Let me know if you guys move forward with this and have an available spot.

Hey All. I would love to join the game. I also have the new RA Salvatore tabletop gamebook set in his world of Corona if anyone is interested in a preview. (was an early kickstarter backer for that one :) )

Has this started yet? I've been dying to get back into D&D since I moved away from home and can't play with the group I grew up playing with.

Let me know I have nearly every book on PDF from the OG D&D to 3.5 and (unfortunately some 4) Also been play testing D&D Next =D

I don't really have the time currently in a more constant participation in any campaign, but I'd suggest you give out some basic information as to the theme of the campaign, where people start, what brings them together etc. For example a dwarf character who is scared of ships might feel very odd in a seafaring campaign.

Players, especially people who do not have a lot of experience with D&D, roleplaying or in general creating characters, have a way easier time figuring out what to play if they have a basic idea of what is around them, what they are even supposed to do in a huge vhast world they currently might have no idea about. Even for more experienced players having an idea of where the group will start (levelwise) or what power level the whole campaign will be at might be rather interesting points.

Currently with the information so far (literally nothing) creating characters with some depth that make sense to be in the campaign, will be hard if not impossible.

If you don't care so much about that and aim more for a very casual 'roll-play' approach it likely won't matter, but if you would like to have some more character development or interaction planning ahead of the start what people wanna play might be rather important.

I would be interested in this depending on what the actual schedule would be. I have experience with PnP games mostly White Wolf stuff and Shadowrun from way back and more recently with D&D 4E. I would prob need a little brush up on 3.5 rules but I'm sure its not too difficult.
