20th Century Fox has announced (via The Hollywood Reporter) that the upcoming Assassin's Creed movie has been delayed two months, shifting from June 19, 2015 to August 7, 2015.
The movie will star Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds, 12 Years a Slave) in a leading role, though it remains unclear which character from the Assassin's Creed franchise he will portray.
Fassbender--who has never played the games but enjoys the plot--is the only talent officially attached to the movie so far. Neither a director nor a supporting cast have been announced.
Ubisoft has a total of six movies in the pipeline. In addition to Assassin's Creed, the French publisher is making movies based on its Far Cry, Rabbids, Watch Dogs, Splinter Cell, and Ghost Recon franchises. In all instances, Ubisoft will retain creative control.
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is the latest entry in the action-adventure series and was released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC last month. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions are available today, ahead of their respective platforms' release.
