Blacklight: Retribution made major waves when it launched on PC in early 2012. Free-to-play is everywhere now, but at that time a gorgeous, fast-paced first person shooter was not the experience most gamers pictured when they imagined a free game download.
In the 18 months since, free-to-play has become much more common. But Blacklight’s fast-paced, Call of Duty-esque action and clever sci-fi gameplay twists allowed the game to keep its loyal player base. IGN awarded it an 8.5/10 for a reason, after all.
And now that Blacklight is available on the PS4, console gamers now have the opportunity to jump in as well. But where to start? Is Blacklight a freemium trap, or is it truly possible to have a fun, spending-free experience? Let’s take a look.
