A small group of enterprising hackers have found a way to stream PC software to the Wii U GamePad controller, allowing users to bypass the system completely. The hack was shown off during the 30th Chaos Communication Congress in Germany recently and a video of the group's demonstration is now available below. The demo begins around the 47-minute mark.

First, the presenters show off a simple drawing app streamed from the PC to the Wii U GamePad. But the hackers draw a loud applause from the crowd when they demo an emulated version of GameCube title The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker streamed from the PC to the controller.

The demo crashed a few times, but seemed to be mostly playable. The code, which is in an alpha state and is aimed primarily at developers, is available today.

Eventually, the group said it plans to release an Android port of the software that will allow you to use your existing tablet as a Wii U GamePad, though this functionality is not likely to be officially sanctioned or supported by Nintendo.

A similar streaming system is already available from the NVIDIA Shield, which allows you to stream certain PC games to the portable device in 1080p.
