Families?

Not that it needs to be done specifically now, but I'm interested in being part of a Family for at least when Live hits Headstart. My plan is to try and join Talented, or at least follow his idea of getting to level 50 as soon as possible, and then starting my life as a Husbandry, Leatherworker, Farmer, and whatever other 2 specializations seem interesting. This way, I can do a lot of Resource gathering up on the Northern Continent where its more dangerous but much more lucrative.
I'd like to be in a Family that works together, pooling resources and getting everyone up and running. What are some other people's idea for Families? Mini-guilds that have more of a Family Leader? A group of people that share resources? I have a few ideas myself on how they could be run, but I think much of that is Rynea's department.

Personally what I see from the Family idea in general is one of two choice.
Either roleplay/friend selection which you want to be part of a select group which makes sense to be fair. Or the second option is a group which is either aiming for something/getting a goal together, if you look at me, Nilliad and Totall for example, we are helping each other finish each other's boats. So totall just finished his merchant ship, and I will probably go for a galleon, so I am just trying to get the resources ready and the nui tears.

I think a family is going for a long term goal, not just short term. Why not just make friends with someone if you're only helping them with a boat?
The way I look at families is everyone in the family will focus on a specific thing, like someone to focus on farming, logging, levelling, and crafting aspects. I think I'm going to try to organize a family for release that will allow me to level without worrying about my farm then to focus on farming heroic dungeons with bare minimum gear as I've got a great group of players with the current heroic dungeon on farm. I'm also focusing on fishing and mining which are nice money grabs for labor points.

I am the "leader" of Talentednot's Family and i say "leader" simply because I created it and you cant have 8 leaders in the family XD. I consider the family a type of mini guild with everybody helping each other. Talented and Degar tend to spend alot of time together out killing anything they want to while Mayron tends to spend alot of his time working on his farms and getting alot of trade packs together for runs that we are planning to do. And of course you have me with my Bugsmacker (for you who haven't joined me sport fishing that is my fishing boat's name due to how many bugs we run over XP) fishing and then randomly running off to do weird stuff (like killing random mobs on the north continent or tree hunting in a few random areas.) If you plan on starting a family there are a few things you should keep in mind:
1. Do not get a group with everybody doing the same thing unless it is pvp/pve oriented or else you well all be fighting over the same resources.
2. Share freely with each other and communicate often.
3. I would suggest getting a Family house put up and letting everybody use it and then start adding chests for storage to let others grab the resources they don't currently need.
Good luck, Metaldrake

The problem that comes along with a mass guild with 1100+ members is simply that you cannot get to know everyone and you cannot work together with everyone. families are nice little groups of players to work together on a more constant basis with small scale things in mind. It's hard to help out 1100 players with materials, its much easier to share farm permissions and materials with a family without burning yourself out.
I tried to work with families in the beginning, but in the end it brings up some issues, especially with many alts. The family becomes too small rather fast.
But overall, its a nice way to get to know a few people who you can work with on a constant and more direct absis.
If we manage to get something bigger going with multiple families remains to be seen, currently most of us are just testing what the game has to offer, without any big plans for working together on specific professions etc. Most players will even change their professions totally when live hits us.

I'm interested in working together with a couple of people in a family to make lvl up our professions faster and making boats/big house/etc together.
I'm in EU and work full-time so i'm mostly only able to log on in the evening (19-22 CET) and some other random hours when i have time.
At release i'm going to focus on getting a big farm up and lvling (want lvl50 fast to have an advantage when doing riskier traderuns).
As for professions i think i'll go for tailoring and alchemy with some gathering and farming.
If somebody is interested in setting up a family, let me know in game or here.
