So here's what Shining Veins look like on a farm.

So far they only give Iron Ore and Raw Stone. I'll update as I get more data.

Quick question Dish. When it says mine a gem, does it mean when you mine any type of metal vein and get a gem as a bi-product, you also have a chance of getting this? Or is there actually an area with gems that you can mine?

Wish I knew. That was very confusing but if read literally I would say that if you get a gem there's a chance of getting the seed vein too.

I got a few of those myself, probably when I hit some gems (twice total), but I didn't know thats what they were for...very cool!
So these are your personal Ore to mine once later, or is it a regrowing type of Ore to keep on the farm?

You water it and then can mine it every 3 hours. If it becomes a fault you can open it up and get a chance for rare ores... but it destroys the vein. Once one of them opens up I will do this to collect data.

Do they give a large number of ores? Because it doesn't seem very useful if its like a limited normal vein that you can only mine once every 3 hours when there are areas where veins spawn every few seconds.

No. 3-4 raw stone and 2-3 ore IIRC.

I've only hit it 16 times thus far. For 25 LP the return isn't worth it but once I get the node to turn into a fault I will upload screenshots, etc. I'll lose the node but we'll have data. :)

Still no shining vein drop for me, I wonder what the chance of getting one of these is.

I've hit over 2000 veins and I haven't gotten one to drop... but they are on the AH. 100% drop rate there. Heh.

Guess what? If you want to mine stone Shining Veins have a higher yield! From my analysis comment in my spreadsheet (formatting not completed yet):

Bottom line: Shining Veins have higher Raw Stone production. At every level of proficiency measured the increase in Raw Stone production is greater than the use in LP to generate that stone.

Although the data set is very limited Shining Veins will yield:
2.575x more stone/strike but at a cost of 1.94x more LP less than 10K.
<20K: 2.863x, 2.01x more LP.
<30K: 2.998x, 1.67x more LP.
<40K (modeled): 2.998x, 2x more LP.

<10K, let's assume iron yields 5 stones at 5 LP every strike. These are NOT real values!

You would spend 10 LP to hit a shining vein but you would get 12 or 13 stones, depending on how the game rounds, versus only getting 10 if this were an Iron Vein. This is to show you that despite spending more LP/stone, the yield/LP spent is higher.

Bear in mind, though - you have to spend gold to buy the shining vein and it's doubtful over the life of the vein you'll make your money back purely on raw stone. Take into consideration overall iron ore yield along with rare percentages.

Whats the Fault rate? Does it seem like a rare strike?

It might also be worthwhile if JUST because of stone, iron is a simple resource but stone is a chokepoint seemingly far into the game (castle building, guild hall, etc)

stone is a really easy resource to get if you dont mind taking the risk and going to cinderstone to get star shard veins, seems like a higher rate of stone but ive got no research to back it up. Also theres usually less people there instead of killing each other for a single iron vein.

I found thatStar Shard Veins @25lp/vein are hardly worth the labor unless your goal is to dump labor or lvl mining skill really fast.
