total noob and have a new computer , yay,
want to keep the older one running as well as new one,
how do i connect them both to the modem?
and not slow down the new computers speed ?
what do i need to hook them up to first ?

does you modem only have one port? Then i would recommend something like a spliter or a router allthough i'm dont know much about the network markets, asus routers seem to do good although they are a bit expensive. Regarding speed, the two computers will still share the maximum bandwith(total speed) so if you download alot on one the other will ofc be slower.
