Blizzard uses yet another miniature game

first off I am not smashing Blizzard, they have made some excellent games, I played the heck out of WoW and Hearthstone sounds really good to me.
many people know that Blizzard used the Warhammer tabletop miniatures game as inspiration for the Warcraft series of games eventually leading to WoW.
I was watching the trailers for Overwatch and couldn't shake the feeling I have seen those designs before. In terms of game play it seems inspired by Team Fortress but those character designs ...hmmmm
Oh yeah, they seem drawn from this miniatures game:
Infinity, Blizz took visual elements and mixed them together. Not a bad place to start from, when designing.
just look at these
Marksmen. and these
Nagas.
lol

I really like the look and "feels" of Overwatch so far. I usually am not really into these kind of games but the champions and possible future champions look so interesting

to be honest, the tight spandex sniper female is pretty much an archetype. The Widowmaker sniper char (and the Infinity Naga you referenced too) seem much more inspired by Starcraft Nova than anything else. The Robot Monk shares similarities in design with the Diablo 3 Monk, the Engineer Torbjörn seems to share design traits with Warcraft Dwarves. Mercy seems like a crossover of a Starcraft Medic and a Diablo Angel. Other characters seem to take cues from cultural archetypes rather than specific games, like the Gundamlike Bastion or Hanzo, the Ninja.
Its pretty obvious though that Overwatch was heavily inspired by Team Fortress, and i am impressed how they again seem to achieve what they do best: taking a popular concept and improving on it to perfection, with the typical Blizzard spin. Team Fortress mixed with the massive pool of individual champions we have seen in MOBAs so far? Hell yeah. Objective-based gameplay only instead of Deathmatch? Awesome!
As someone who enjoys shooters, im officially hyped.
edit: currently a panel running on origins of the heros.
Pharah was originally called internally "Rocket Dude"
its cool to hear the devs tell the story how the heros went through all the iterations and how they developed the backstory and character and and how it shaped the final look

I dont mind if a game is "copied" from another game, just as long as the game isnt too copied.

Signed up for the beta so we will see, trailer of gameplay I saw looked slow compared to other titles that its being compared to (When talking Overwatch). I know they are going to produce more expansions at a quicker pace for WoW but I hope they don't neglect or keep in there cycle for other games like Diablo and Starcraft. Diablo I feel is a tad neglected per se.

originally Blizzard wanted to make world of warhammer not warcraft, but games workshop didnt want to branch out into electronic games (or let anyone else use their precious IP) so it was changed to warcraft, and just so you know I was working at GW head office at the time, thats how I know

One of the bosses at Blizzard Andy Chambers was one of the lead game developers at Games Workshop. So that could be a reason behind it....
