There was a time when Winamp was widely--or at least in college dorm rooms--considered the best media player on the internet. After all, what other service allowed us to listen to MP3s while hearing a slogan about beating llamas
in the spirit of Wesley Willis? After a decade and a half, Winamp will cease operations next month.
As reported by Ars Technica, Winamp posted
a brief message on its site this afternoon announcing the company's closure after more than 15 years. All Winamp services will go dark on December 20, and no further support will be offered for Winamp media players.
