Other than Subnautica and No Man's Sky? Rimworld is pretty big, and for good reason too. Seven Days to Die has some mixed reviews, but it's another game in the category I'd vouch for. But really, most of the best exploration and base-building games out there are either minor improvements over foundational hits like Minecraft and Dwarf Fortress that defined the genre's main approaches. So not sure what to really recommend that Cohh hasn't handily covered. :p

No mans sky is not really a base builder Subnautica and Rimworld are pretty solid though. Space Engineer is pretty interesting, good moddng community as well

Have you tried The Forest? That's pretty heavily into basebuilding.

Depends how much base building and exploration you want from a game. Rimworld, Terraria, Craft the World, Crea, Don't Starve, Kingdom: Classic, Life is Feudal, Space Engineers and Thea: The Awakening. Those are the games that come to my mind. But I'm sure there are many more out there

I have 1700+ hours into 7 days to die, it is going to alpha 15 build probably by Labor Day, and to me if you get into the Modding community after first mastering the vanilla game it is one of the better survival horror building games. It can also be played solo or multiplayer, cheat or anti cheat, PVE or PVP. For me this makes it very versatile and most can find the experience they are looking for. Its still in early access and is in alpha so its not polished. But I do have 1700+ hours in the game. I am wwiiogre in 7DTD. I generally play PVE and am not a griefer or player killer. I also play on one of the toughest PVP servers and heaviest modded servers in the game. spider is the mod and his mod is the JZ mod and his server is True Survival Hardcore (which is currently not running till alpha 15 comes out). For more PVE I suggest the Mythmoor server run by Xype on the East Coast of the US or Rainy Skys based on the West Coast of the US in Seattle.
The entire world other than Bedrock is destructible and buildable. No steam workshop yet but the game is heavily modified and there is a great community. Almost every single alpha update I have seen have taken tons of great community ideas and put them in the game.
It is a zombie apocalypse game with survival and base building at its core. It was painful for me to watch Carnage's first 7dtd video at first. My advice if you have not played the game is play solo for awhile, and on lower difficulty until you get the hang of it. Then start visiting the servers that look interesting to your style of play. Good Luck and hope you find the game you are looking for. I also have Thea the Awakening and that is a different kind of game with combat handled as a card minigame. Whereas 7DTD is first person melee, archery, firearms both black powder and modern as well as rocket launchers and mines and explosives.

[QUOTE="ww2ogre, post: 37205, member: 90249"]I have 1700+ hours into 7 days to die...

I have less than 100 hours and really really loving it too. I've only played solo and not much of a co-op person but I'm excited to try it with this game. I've yet to come close to exploring all of Navegane so I haven't even touched random gen. Despite a few bugs, it has proven itself to me and growing numbers that it has that X factor which will give it a long successful life.
I'm really excited about the latest news via the Reddit Q&A with the devs. Electricity, turrets and traps are coming?!!

MIscreated is a good mix of basebuilding and survival. Dayz meets Rust.
