Twitch app on iOS not detecting tokens

Can't watch Cohh live as most of the time I'm at work due to the time difference, but even when I watch a previous broadcast on the Twitch app on iOS I'm not seeing any change in tokens even after 5 hours of watching, the token system seems flawed.

You only gain tokens when you're logged into chat. Watching a past broadcast will not let you gain tokens.
