White Night on steam

Really fantastic horror exploration game, that takes place in the 1950's.
It has this super cool black/white comicbook art-style. It's really cool!

I also recomend F.E.A.R 1, and Doom 3 WITHOUT duct tape mods.

Five Nights At Freddy's Quadrilogy
If for nothing else other than as prep for some of the fantastic fan made games that have arisen. That and the Lore behind the original series will become deeply embedded in your psyche.
F.E.A.R. - Old but really good. They were really good at matching the action and horror. The game also sports some excellent examples of A.I. that many modern developers could learn from.

Dead Space series. While the second and third games moved further and further from the horror aspect, they both have good nope-moments and several moments of environmental storytelling that makes the flesh crawl.
F.E.A.R (the first one) is scary as hell! And as you mention it's old but Really good!

I can recommend Downfall: A Horror Adventure Game and, The Cat Lady for a more psychological horror.

Alone in the dark is by far the most terrifying game I played as a kid on ps1. resident evil didn't scare me near as much as this did.

The Evil Within
New Survival Horror by the original Resident Evil creator with 2014 Quality (also, Bethesda)

Daylight (It says PS4 on the trailer but it's also on Steam)
The great thing about this one is, that the environment and even the scares are randomized

Slender: The Arrival
There has to be a Slender game.. and this is one of the best

Edit: these non-spoilery trailers btw, just to get some sense of what type of games they are.

Ok, this might seem like a strange pitch at first, but hear me out!

Life Is Strange: http://store.steampowered.com/app/319630/

I'll be the first to acknowledge that this doesn't fit the 'typical' horror game motif, but A) the game takes place in around this time in the year, and Halloween-y posters and decorations are starting to pop up in the environment; B) some of the topics the game goes through are actually of rather deeply disturbing nature (one's own insecurities, mental illness, drugs, loss and more), even if the game looks and 'feels' like a cheerful one at first; and C) given the two previous points, I, personally, find that this game could in fact provide a more subtle, but more grounded in reality (real emotions-wise at least) and as such, I propose it to be part of the list of games for NOPEtober.

Thoughts?
