Republique, developer Camouflaj's ambitious stealth-action Kickstarter success, is almost here. It's a gorgeous game that embraces the inherent traits of your iOS device, while also delivering a daring story drenched in themes of surveillance, voyeurism, and freedom. We got a chance to sit down with Ryan Payton, founder of Camouflaj and lead on the game, and talk about what it was like working on Metal Gear Solid 4 and Halo 4, why he decided to make an iOS game, and some strange similarities to Ubisoft's Watch Dogs.






Payton's previous experience in the gaming industry is impressive to say the least. He spent three years at Kojima Productions working as a producer on Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, on which he's credited for helping to introduce a modernized, Western-style control scheme. He looks back on his time in Japan as a monumental learning experience, and fondly remarked that he absorbed the team's undying passion and drive for quality, which is something he's instilled upon his current team on Republique.
