Game: Minecraft
Reason: There are infinite possibilities in minecraft. You can play many different games in minecraft. With a mod and map you can make minecraft like dark souls, on a server you can do minigames like hide and seek and other minigames that imitate other real games. Call of Duty is one of those games that has been imitated in Minecraft. The amount of things you can do in minecraft also keeps growing. It doesn't have an advanced mining or crafting system, but there are many mods that compensate for those things. It's the community that makes the game better.

Game: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Reason: To me, Skyrim is just completely amazing.
First of all, the build of the character is just awesome. The way you play, affects what you level up. So the more you use one thing, the better you get at using it (which is like a natural progress in life).
Secondly, the world. The world is huge. You can explore for weeks, and still discover new things. It adds so much play time to the game, and because almost every single cave/instance/dungeon is unique, which makes me want to explore everything.
Thirdly, the lore. The history in the entire Elder Scrolls series is massive. It has one of the richest backstories I have ever seen to a game, and if you decide to actually get yourself into the story, you can spend hours and hours of reading. (If you don't want to be dragged into the entire story of the Elder Scrolls, you can still skip it if you wish to - it's a user choice, which is perfect).
Fourthly, everything is voice acted. The fact that they have taken the time to do this, just makes it even more amazing, and just makes it more complete.
Finally, the freedom. YOU decide what you want to do. There are no boundaries, no storyline that you HAVE to follow. This is what makes me so interested in this game. It's up to the player him/herself to decide, what he/she wants to do.

All in all, Skyrim just have so much content, and it can keep you entertained for weeks to come.

Game: Portal/Portal 2
Reason: To keep things simple, the story is hilarious and it's also somewhat touching. The puzzles are excellent. And even though I have completed the games a few times before, I would see no problem in playing through them again, even though I would probably remember most of the puzzles. No matter what, it would still be a huge enjoyment for me.

I hope you can use it for something Genzzry. ^_^

Game: City of Heroes
Reason: Tons of customization both in how your character looks and their abilities/powers, and while not every combination was perfectly balanced, nothing was so bad that it wasn't worth playing. Invention system allowed for lots of additional customization in how your character played and creating new builds and optimizing builds was a lot of fun. Many different enemy groups to fight against that actually felt different from one another in combat. Pretty much any combination of player characters could make a successful group, you did not have to wait for any specific role for 99% of the game's content. 8 player group size as I like playing in large groups. Great difficulty scaling options to make things easier or harder that works solo and in groups. Most content scaled with group size automatically, making it easy to add new players to a group as you go.

Game: Everquest (this is based on Everquest many years ago, not sure if its really the same these days)
Reason: A large world to explore, plenty of classes that fit within a wide spectrum of roles, challenging content with feeling of consequence if you die, large raid sizes (often 50+ players), some of the most memorable quests I've done in any game. The lore is also one of my favorites among fantasy games/stories.

do we need two? or are we good with just one?

Game: The Legend of Dragoon
Reason: Other than being my first true RPG it's also one of the only games I have played through fully multiple times within a year or so with the only exception being Fable 1. The overworld graphics and map graphics weren't the best (it was a PS1 game after all) however it had some amazingly visual cutscenes and quite a good story. The biggest thing for me however was the addition combat system. Many people apparently didn't like it but I thought it was one of the best combat systems for an RPG that I've used before. For those that don't know what the addition system was pretty much for each slash/chop/hit of the combo you chose you would press the X button when an outline of a box got just inside of the box in the middle of the screen. Each time you'd do a combo you'd eventually level them up and unlock new ones with more hits meaning it would take more skill to land each hit in the combo in order to progress to more powerful ones. Then there's the dragoon system which is a whole other story involving a timing minigame and a bunch of awesome looking magic attacks including using gigantic dragon spirits to kill your enemies. The music/audio although looking back at it now was pretty repetitive always seemed fitting and played at the right times, whether it was happy times, sad times, battles, the map, etc.

Fantastic Dizzy - Sega MegaDrive No saves back then had to do it all in one go and I played through more than 10 times easily.
Snatcher - SegaCD I found the setting and story of this masterpiece amazing and at the time it came out I was heavily into Bladerunner

Modern Honourable Mention - Minecraft I personally will sway towards the 360 version over the PC but still I have sunk 100s of hours just having a blast making rubbish huts and mining. No matter what mood I'm in it just seems to cover the bases.

Snatcher was my most favorite game for pretty much the same reasons as stonefoxuk. I completed it on my first run through on could not put the controller down.
Micromachines on the OLD NES too was a big hit with me, my brothers and my parents we all had fun playing it just a pure simple fun game.
And to take things back even further centerpede on the Atari 2600 was highly addictive.

Proberbly show my age a little bit there but ah well.

I got an Atari in 1980, and I've been fascinated by video games ever since. In all that time, there are 2 games that have captured my imagination and actually changed my life more than any others...

Game: Final Fantasy XI
Reason: I played it every day for almost 7 years, and there was always something fun to do! The game was awesome, the world was fascinating, and the community was the best. My life in FFXI was actually a major chapter in my real life.

Game: Super Street Fighter 2
Reason: It introduced my favorite character, Cammy, and the game was a gateway to learning about SO many interesting things... video games, fighting games, Japan, cosplay, manga, web design, graphic design, travel, etc. This one game had a huge effect on the course of my life!

Game: The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
Reason: Captured the essence of adventure games in the 1990s. Combined a deep story line with stellar 3D experience. Established the new direction of the Zelda franchise as well.

Game: World of Warcraft
Reason: Like it or hate it. This game is the benchmark for all MMORPG's. It may have borrowed qualities from Ultima, Everquest, and other large MMORPG's, but it redefined the entire genre in such a way that every game is compared to it.

Game: Planescape Torment
Reason: No other game have made me continue to play and still play after so many years because of the story alone, truly nr1.

Game: Wizardry 8.
Reason: Incredible immersive, wonderful depth, great characters and one of my most played games.

Game: The Witcher 1/2
Reason: They have the whole package, awesome graphics, story, characters, factions and are incredibly immersive and as icing on the cake drm free, few games the last 10 years have had such impact on me as a gamer and as huge replayabilty even though the second game isn't especially big.

Game: Dark Souls

Reason: Great combat, feels like weapons actually packs a punch which is very rare indeed, great atmosphere and finally a bit more challenging than most game today which was a very welcoming experience, i don't like when games are holding my hands.

I agree, legend of dragoon was a good one. I remember playing it for hours when i first bought it.

Xenogears was another good RPG. Kind of hard to find and really reminded me alot of final fantasy 7 in ways of graphics and story. I got lucky years ago and found a used Xenogears black label for $20 bucks and snatched it up. Think Final Fantasy meets Gundam wing or something with mechs in it lol.

Game: Carmageddon
Reason: OMG! This game was epically unique in it's time. The replay feature is what made me addicted. Just trying to do the craziest stunts or whatever and watching replays of it, hundreds of hours easily spent in this game in my younger years. Hell, I probably put over 100 hours into the demo before it was released.

Game: Doom
Reason: Probably the most popular shareware floppy disk game in history...another game where just replaying the demo was epic enough. I bought and played every version of it, and it still play it regularly today because of the Brutal Doom mod.

Game: Wing Commander III
Reason: The most epic store and lore I have ever experienced in a game. Although the game itself was good, I wanted to win the mission so badly because I wanted to see the next part of the plot.

Game: Star Control II
Reason: To this day, no game has every matched the experience I got from this title. Only game that has come close is mass effect, which I am sure this game was one of that franchise's biggest inspirations.

Game: Deus Ex
Reasons: Gameplay was superb, story was amazing, and the character customization combined with how it changed approaches to missions was unlike anything I had ever played before

Game: The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Reasons: It was the first CRPG I played at length, it had a huge world and one that would allow you to do anything you felt like doing, the only restriction was a popup when you killed a character central to the main plot (and all you had to do was close it to keep playing), oh and it didn't hold your hand... if you weren't ready for an area you either had to run or died horribly.

Game: Mass Effect 1 & 2 (not so much 3 ~~)
Reason: I absolutely loved the story of this game, also the decisions and the gameplay.

Game: City of Heroes
Reason: I put in over 7 years of almost daily gameplay into this amazing MMORPG, had an incredible community. Every instance run as a team was filled with chat and tons of humor. The graphics would never be classed as ground breaking, but they had a charm all of their own - not cartoon like, not realistic but they had a unique charm. Tons of combat power combinations, you were even able to customize the color of each individual power!
