I've been doing a little bit of research around the interwebs on a bit of a personal quest. I'm curious as to what people prefer to play as class/race wise and what their thought process is during the character creation side of things.
Lately the Flynn-bomb has been having...doubts about dual-wielding lately. ;_; So yeah, personal quest time go! (shall most likely translate into ESO and Wildstar, so I have plenty of time on my pilgrimage!)
MMO's and you, and me.

I'm a gamer and I'm trying to become a novelist - albeit it's being very very slow.
But hey - never give up right?
And when in doubt, just keep swimming! =D

I am planning to jump over to ESO, I thought I was done with MMORPG's. And when it comes to class and such. I prefer to go for classes that fits the races, like Nord - Warrior like - Dragonknight, or Wood Elf - Archer, forrest type - Nightblade. And I make them based on what kind of background they have, like Nords, big bulky strong people with the same grand beard as my grandfather.

Back when I played WoW I learned that I love to play tanks.
Mainly because I got tired of people not knowing how to tank properly
And of course I usually think big bulky warriors look badass.
Either that or ranged dmg, but I can't find the will to play any mmorpg at the moment (2 kids, wife and a job so I don't have enough time to really get into mmo's).

He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you.

I've mostly played WoW.. for many years
I started out on a mage - being a total noob. Got on a shaman healer for late Vanilla raiding (AQ40, Naxx). In TBC I re-rerolled into Warrior tanking with an Arms components (challenging back when there was no dualspec) so I could offtank in The Eye and other places. Then I swapped mains to ranged dps - hunter.. and I loved it.. played hunter in Black Temple/MH/Sunwell progression into Ulduar.. then I took a break and came back as a mage and enjoyed that through late WotLK/Cata/MoP.
I also took a hiatus into SWTOR and there I learned to really love Assasin Tanks.. gotta love a tank that can stealth!! Tanked through all the big bosses in NM more up until Kephess Hard mode, then I quit that due to EA/BioWare being greedy F2P silly persons.
I can see how a Stalker in WildStar can do the same thing as an Assasasin in SWTOR (damage/stealth AND tank!) and so I just said NOPE after the first beta weekend.. otherwise I'd be sucked in again

I started vanilla wow as a paladin.... 5 min buffs to give to 40 people means you didn't do much other then buff people. swapped to a rogue then did a warrior but when I stopped playing I did a hunter because my guild didn't need any tank.

Ranged dps, preferably archer based.
I found the main benefits being high mobility and burst dps, allowing for easy positioning in boss fights and general AOE dodging, while the dps output barely gets affected.
The downside would be that in less engaging fights, the role allows you to sit back, cruise through content and things might become uninteresting if it's not your playstyle.

I usually always play ranged DPS or main tank. I ran ranged DPS in DAoC with several 8-main guilds, then I DPS'd with Cohh's guilds in Vangaurd, Warhammer, & Rift, then switched to tank for them in SWTOR (same reason as Arriz
). You only need 1-2 REALLY good tanks, but if you want to win, honestly you need a LOT of REALLY good DPS.
