Indeed it would be nice to keep a more friendly attitude, secondly it would be nice if OP answerd those questions so we would know what things to include into the budget.theskuggi wrote:chill out guys, so budget is 1k, that's doable. Do you have a Mouse/Keyboard/Monitor that you currently enjoy using? Also what is your preferred store? Also any idea of what games you'll be wanting to play on it? Current/upcoming?
You're wrong in one thing, there is no such thing as a 970 2gb, both the 980 and the 970 has a stock memmory of 4gb and since they are the stock ones they arent really hard to find.Lonkley wrote:If you're going the APU route, you may as well get a PS4.
Also, I made a mental mistake Broadwell is the upcoming chipset, and current gen is Haswell.
You can build a system for $1000 that will run 1080p well. You don't need to go crazy until you start pushing higher resolutions. I always try to hit a price performance balance.
I just spent a little time throwing together a system.

One, I assume you have keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Two, I assume you either don't want a dvd etc drive, or already have one. Ive gotten to the point I just either use USB to install windows or just temporarily install one from another box. I went H87 chipset for the two banks of memory, you can fill it 2x4 now, and if need be add another 2x4 down the road. You probably wont need to. If you really need to you can go 4x8.
I went with a a gtx 770 which should power games really prettily through 1080p. This one has 4gb a ram, which I think will be useful. It's $280, and I do have some trepidation, because another $50 will get to a 970 with 2gb (and again, I think 2gb is not good enough anymore.)
I didnt research anything heavily. Prices are always in flux, there's a bunch of rebates, and 2 game combos that dont show with the public list. (Presequel and World of Tanks).
Also newegg will start having black friday sales probably as soon as November. That could be a hit or miss, it was a lot more fun when they had actual black friday with real deals. Still, if you are patient with a plan you could probably shave 10 or 20% or more on components. Although often its the stuff that isnt selling and has poor reviews (or good stuff priced over market).
The list you both are refering to feels really basic. Jonnyguru.com is considered the most credible site when it comes to psu reviews. However he didnt have review on either of the supplies but bjorn3d and annandtech had reviews. The rosewill was "decent all-around" and the seasonic was really good. However there is only one king of the psu-market right now, the evga supernova g2.callumdk wrote:Lonkley i'm going to say this as nice as possible, don't ever market your self as a helper or a pc builder for family or friends ever again![]()

the PSU is a tier5 on this list which means its beyond garbage and can fry your system, these products have been tested and reviewed as beyond horrible and never perform more than perhaps 65-70% of their listed wattage
the GPU is outdated like nothing before, yes he is building a "budget" gaming computer , but really even the motherboard is beyond subpar , horrible chipset that wont be able to perform in any way or handle any major upgrades.
The memory , 1333mhz ? , what is this ? , year 2008-09 ?
Do your self a favor Slade, save up a little more money and buy what i listed and you will be set for 3-4 years atleast.
There is good combo deals comming out, and Black Friday comes in November , then the 1200$ build i listed you would possibly be able to get for around 1000$

You make the cheap chipset sound way to bad the main differnce between h97 and z97 is that you cant overclock on h97 and that you cant run sli(plusminus some sata ports here and there).Otherwise there is no peformance differnce.(however i do agree that in this budget range you should run z97).
Then we got the gpu, the 770 might be older but since the new maxwell launch the prices has droped and you might get one really cheap. However you should go for the stock 2gb version. 2gb is enough for 1080p and if you want to go higher you wont have the horsepower to calculate it anyway so 4gb is not worth it.
Might someone care to explain the reasons why you should have a seperate streaming computer? Streaming via shadowplay is really easy(although it might bug sometimes and you can't have overlays(however they are going to implement it)) but as you said he didnt meantion streaming.Lonkley wrote:I don't recall streaming being an issue, and I wouldn't do it at all other than a stopgap until more cash/chosen card is available.
If I was streaming I would put it on different box and save the headaches. Or at least create a different set of them.
where did you get that from??Lonkley wrote: And not to get in a pissing match, but MSI is hardly the stellar name in hardware.
As you can see this is starting to look like a wall of text so to make it clean and simple i would recommend that you start your own thread when the time comes.nodepoker wrote:Wife and I are hoping to upgrade in the next few months, keeping an eye on this.
Last, but not least. OP would you be so kind to post your gear so that we know what needs an update
