Retro games we miss, post yours and why you miss it.

Hey guys... something while watching Cohh play a new game I have flashbacks of great games I've played in the past. I don't play as much anymore due to work and an overloaded brain. I'm involved in too many projects and can't ditch them, but I get to watch Cohh play in the very least!

Today I was thinking of Betrayal at Krondor and Betrayal in Antarra, Cohh was playing some turn based adventure game. These were really well done, good story telling and plot. Then thought of a crazy series from Westwood that had so many possibilities, kind of a weird game but good. The Lands of Lore series: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lands_of_Lore_series these games were pretty unique, and a little strange. Lots of hidden places, puzzles and content that will maybe be stuck in your mind for ages. That is if you can put up with their ancient graphics ${L_SMILIES_SMILE}$

I really miss playing Myth II: Soulblighter (WWII Mod) with all my friends. Used to spend hours on that game working up the ranked ladder. Too bad Bungie had to sell out to Microsoft so we could see stupid Halo. :\

i miss halflife multiplayer boot_camp map. played it for YEARS with the same group of people, lost track of them eventually too bad though had so much fun with that game. It actually brought me to a more competitive lvl.

other than the obvious Mario on the Nintendo and super Nintendo, the first game i really remember playing as a kid was Command and Conquer: Red Alert. I use to go to my friends house after school and he had GI Joes so he would use them to shoot the screen while I command the troops and vice versa. Not really retro but one of my earliest gaming memories that still holds a special spot.

Command and Conquer used to be amazing. Either they killed the game and/or genre, or we just grew out of them games.
I don't find a single similar RTS fun any more. Of the series, I'd say Generals was my most fun. Tiberium Sun was pretty solid too.

As funny as it may sound, the most i miss are the old point and click adventurers, like the old Indiana Jones games. Also there was a game, and i cant remember the name anymore, you took over one of the world leader and the bottom line was just to cause havoc and to win the nuclear war.

I still own most of the games I played as a kid, but if there is one I miss, it has to be Knightmare for the MSX, which I traded for something else. It probably wasn't even that good, but it's the first game I spent countless hours on, even though I died several hundred times.
I have been looking for it a few times, but just to own it again, not play it. Because playing really old games again usually kills any kind of nostalgia.

Not exactly Retro, but this was a amazing game back in the day.
Quite a shame that no development company has made a game like it. There's been other business management games, however nothing to the level of this one.

I miss Quake 2. it might be because it is the game that got me into going to LAN parties, were i met alot of other gamers and made alot of new friends. It also was one of the first games that got me into multiplayer.

Have you tried the broken sword series? Point and click plus puzzles... or Grim fandango, if you haven't played that they released a remastered version.

way back I use to have my own map I had made for Half-Life that my cousins and I would play along with all the other maps, it has always been a fun game

Quake. I started playing multiplayer Quake early on and I can proudly say I was part of that community. It was tremendous fun with a vast library of different gameplay experiences due to Quake C and the mapmaking tools available to anyone. Anyone could make levels, skins, mods, etc., for Quake and people were quick to jump on that platform and play with it. I fondly remember that era of fast-paced twitch shooting. It was a much more rewarding test of one's skill than the tactical shooters that have dominated the FPS genre for so long. It was just more fun, imo.

Chrono Cross and Legend of Dragoon. I have a copy of Chrono Cross that I play every once in a while just to remember what a great JRPG is (those nowadays just aren't up to snuff!). I'm going to go ahead and add Final Fantasy Tactics here because that was an amazing adaptation of Tactics Ogre.

Yeah. I class it as the same game.
There's plenty of mods still being made for it, but If I ever play Multiplayer on it, I want it to be legit with a friend who'll stay till the end.

Used to have great fun in after school lans with Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II multiplayer and I still think Command and Conquer: Red Alert was one of the best c&c's ever made. Quake 2 holds a special place for me as well. Even before that era though some of the first games I remember were Apogee's Duke Nukem 1 and Crystal Caves. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Monkey Island 1 and come to mind as well, albeit it a little later.
