Hey guys,

I'm trying to decided whether or not to build a pc! I have never built one before, and I don't really know what brands are the most reliable or what i really need to get. I am wanting my pc to be able to run DayZ so I'm guessing I am going to have to get some higher quality stuff. If anyone can link me to a good build, or just give me some advice that would be great! i'm trying to stay under 1,000 dollars!

Thanks everyone,

Badger

here's what i would take, you need an ssd its as simple as that. i went ahead and uppgraded to a really nice psu so you can go dual gpu if you want to in the future. the r9 290x you linked wasnt listed so i switched it for a xfx they are really good. I also switched the chassi, neos has same functionallity but no window(blue motherboard and red ram doesnt fit anyways) and its cheaper. other than that its all good

For DayZ which takes barely any ressources it's a little over the top, but seems like an okay system. I'd add a bit extra and go for 16GB of RAM if you want to stay in this price range, but then I've always preferred RAM to other aspects like higher performance CPU and mainboard That would be an extra 70$ that you might notice with many everyday activities on a system. I'd also grab an NVIDIA 970 instead, which is about the same price, but then I've simply made a lot better experiences with nvidia than radeon with their drivers the cards are pretty much comparable when it comes to performance. On top of that the heat production of the 290X is insane, so unless you live in a freezer, that might also be a point to pick the 970.

The 290X gets better the higher resolutions you have compared to the 970, but unless you're running on a 4K monitor, you're likely still better of with the 970 even in the 2xxx resolutions

yeah, the 970 has dropped since i last checked the strix version is 35$ more than the xfx 290x bucks more. the 970 is quiter and is a bit faster in 1080p. However Rynea you're overexaggurating a bit, the aftermarket r9 290x are running at a load temp of 75 C which isnt that much, its about 7 C over 970. however the 970 is much cooler at idle, in idle its a 10 C diffrenece.

if you are going to spend 35$ bucks extra on a video card it would be a shame to have that loud stock cpu fan, buy a cooler master hyper 212 evo its 30$. Regarding the ram, i dont know what people do to exceed 8 gigs used(except when editing and encoding and stuff like that) but its nice to have i guess.

See I dont really know much of anything about computers. Is ram what allows you to have several windows and applications open at once?
