Hi Cohh and the Cohhilition!!

I heard that you(Cohh) were gonna start playing Guild Wars 2 again and thought that you might want some info.

But why am I doing this? Well, you're gonna be making a lot of players come back to the game and they are gonna ask you question as if you were an all-knowing Guru!

I'm guessing this is not the case and so I thought I could help you out with some good things to know.

Keep in mind that the Guild Wars 2 Community is all about being Friendly and Helpful. Sure there are pricks out there, but most of us are really nice!

Good things to note about the game:
  • All nodes(mining, lumber and so on) are yours, it doesn't matter if someone else takes one, there will be one for you until you grab it. There's no fighting over nodes.
  • There's also no fighting over mobs, if you help with the killing you will be rewarded for it. No fighting over mobs like in other MMO's
  • All loot you get is yours, no rolling for that Item you need only to have someone else getting it.
  • PvP is separated from PvE, the game is promoting being cooperative, you work together, not against each other.
  • Friendly Community, Ask in /map chat and you will almost always get help, be it with an event or just a question.
  • Servers doesn't matter anymore in PvE, this is due to a Megaserver update they did a while back. This effectively merged all servers to one huge Megaserver. ONLY PLACE SERVER MATTERS IS IN WvW!! It's still region locked though. NA and EU can't play together.
  • No Monthly Fee!! Buy it, play it. Just like any game!
  • No Downtime! except for 3 seconds(!) when they initiate a new patch, basically every two weeks.
  • Active combat, no more standing still mashing buttons, now you have to dodge attacks and keep an eye on your own health because...
  • There are no real roles in GW2, sure you can make a supporty Elementalist, but in no place is it needed to have a character a certain way.
  • Who needs the mouse!? F is used to Loot, Interact, Talk and so on. So annoying trying to play other MMOs, and you have to click NPCs!
  • No backtracking! So you just finished a Quest and no you need to go back to the person all the way back in that town you were in. Not in Guild Wars 2! Finish it, get the rewards.(Also there's actually not really any quests in the game but instead there are Hearts. They work kind of the same though)
  • Level scaling. you go back to a starting zone it will scale your stats appropriately, this means the whole world will stay relevant.
  • Leveling doesn't slow down. Getting levels will take the same amount of time, well almost at least. Level 79->80 will take the same time as 34->35. This is again because of level scaling, you get percentage amounts of XP. Meaning doing a low level map will still give you good XP, no need to rush to the high level zones.
  • Few Key-binds. You don't have 87 gazillion skills, you have 10. 10! Yup, sure you can swap them out, but in battle you need only to have 10 key-binds for skills. Obviously you need some more for moving, jumping and dodging.
  • There's always something to do, but the game won't force you to do anything, it's up to you to set up a goal. Jumping Puzzles, Achievements, Armor skins, Dyes, traits, and so much more!
  • When you HP goes down to 0, you enter a Downed state, in this state you can continue fighting and others will be able to help you back up on your feet.
  • Separate bank for crafting items, In some MMOs your bank will fill up because you wanted to mine all the things! In GW2 you have a separate bank where all the crafting items go, also you can instantly send items to this bank where ever you are. You access it through your bank, or by any crafting station.
  • You don't have to level your Character for PvP, you wanna PvP you go there as soon as you've made your character. You will be level 80 in PvP no matter what level you are in PvE and WvW. Although I don't recommend jumping into PvP first thing, I'd learn the game mechanics in PvE first.
TIPS:
  • Don't rush to max level! Explore the world, play through the story. People who rush to 80 are more prone to leave the game because "There's nothing to do".
  • Don't forget to look up! A lot of the time you'll be running staring at the ground, look up every now and then and you'll see some amazing places.
  • Read why you do things! If your doing an event, why are you doing it? There's usually a reason for the event. Lore in the game is pretty cool.
  • Don't look for a grind! The Grind will find you! Trust me on this one.

Just getting back into the game after a year's absence, this is really useful.

I wished I had gotten in on this. The extra bank space would have been nice :(
