Inspired by Vault 22 in F:NV, what are some of the levels or sections in games that aren't necessarily horror or scare-focused, but you found to be scary. Nb: 'Scary' in this context can include any atmospheric or freaky section where it's designed to be unsettling or frightening, not necessarily just jump-scares.

For me, it's got to be the haunted Ocean House Hotel level of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. Despite being a vampire game set in what is essentially a horror setting, VtMB isn't a horror game per se, but this level was down right creepy and scary in all the right ways. I can't even remember very much combat in that level either, but the ambiance and atmosphere was some of the best I've ever seen in gaming. Very memorable experience!

Secondly, though not an entire level, there's the freaky bit in Metro: Last Light where you go through the tunnel of flesh made of hands that grab at you. That freaked me out so much I had to pause it half way through and take a break. :p Don't get me wrong, Last Light almost counts as a horror game in it's own right - there are a LOT of freaky bits! - so barely gets on the list, but dat tunnel dough...
The more I think about it actually, the more Metro: Last Light is one of my favourite games of all time, but I digress...

Ravenholme from Half Life 2 deserves a mention too.

Any others you can think of? Remember: The best moments are from games that aren't intended to be horror/scary games.

Oh dude, the Ocean House Hotel was something else. That place scarred me. XD

A few of my picks is The Shalebridge Cradle from the old thief game, Place was an orphanage AND a mental hospital, and that whole level overall is super creepy.
The control towers from Metal Gear Solid 1. There's one particular reason for that, and I think many people who have played the game could guess why. But besides all that, the darkness and silence really make for an unnerving feeling.

There's a bunch of bad endings that really freaked me out. The prison book endings for Myst, for instance, really unsettled me. The idea of being trapped, almost immobile, devoid of all senses as someone tears out the pages and almost, by extension, tearing at your soul...

Anything that involves the slow, systematic destruction or disabling of your character also scares me on similar levels. I was even freaked out about Colette's angelic transformation in Tales of Symphonia because of that.

ReDead from the Legend of Zelda series still scare me. too. That shriek, lumbering movement, and...very strange attack!

Man, how did I forget that?! Garrett even has a bit of dialogue (I think in the level complete screen) about how creepy it was, and he's a stone cold badass, so what chance do we mortals have?! :p Witcher 2 has a similar place, too.

Ive got to comment on Shalebridge Cradle as well. It was the first time ever in a game, I got to a point was was like "NOPE, I am so done with this level." The level and sound design were just supurb.

There is also the fact that the entire game before hand has you sticking to shadows, looking for any movement to avoid guards. And then you get here, so you are already on edge looking for enemies to hide from, every little flicker of light or movement sets you off, and it isn't until you fully explore the first area of the game that you realize there was NOTHING there that could hurt you and you were freaking out over nothing. So you start to relax, and then get to the next area with some of the freakiest enemies in the game. Who even if you manage to kill still affect the environment around them causing you to pause and wonder if they really are down for good.
