trying to figure out wether i have a bottleneck

so here is my setup... loosly.....

cpu : intel i7-4770k 3.5GHz

gpu : sapphaire r9 200 series ( for the life of my I can figure out witch, on the card itself I cant find any indication nor I can find the recite from the purchese . tried gpu-z and it also says 200 series.)

disappointment is a very weak word for how I feel with I play games. stuttering low fps etc etc.

how can I tell if I have any bottlenecking currently? or maybe if someone knows of a tool that can collect all the data needed so I can post here?

or maybe my GPU is really that bad and outdated.

Hello there Wolfman! From what I can see of the information you gave chances are that your graphics card is the issue. The difficulty here is that the R9 series of AMD graphics card is huge, meaning that it can stretch from terrible to decent spec cards. Chances are you have something in the range of the R9 270x state of things which is... Eh.

To check do the following:

1. Click Start.
2. On the Start menu, click Run.
3. In the Open box, type "dxdiag" (without the quotation marks), and then click OK.
4. The DirectX Diagnostic Tool opens. Click the Display tab.
5. On the Display tab, information about your graphics card is shown in the Device section. You can see the name of your card, as well as how much video memory it has.

If you are looking to upgrade then my advice is to look at the GTX 960 sort of range. Whilst it is a little more pricy than your average card it is more than capable of running most games.

Before you go out and buy anything though be sure to post back here with what card you have specifically. It may even be worth making a bigger leap of an upgrade up to a better card.

thanks for the reply.

under the device section it still states R9 200 series. however I did manage to find my original receipt and it says there its a R9 280 card , which should be an "OK" card... maybe my drivers are wrong. however the drivers I do manage to find are all generic 200 series and not a specific 280 oriented driver.

Right, what kind of games are you trying to play? On games that do not require much power (Minecraft and CS GO for example) the FPS should be fine, however with games such as Call of Duty, Battlefield and Witcher (Larger, more GPU intensive games) there will definitely be some hits.

I do still stand by my verdict that your Graphics Card will be the Bottleneck.

atm to be honest mostly d3 and ofc The Division beta which tbh as it stands now ill have to upgrade my gfx card otherwise it will be unplayable even on the lowest settings.. but at the past , the usual range of titles that came out at 2015. but even with borderlands 2 I had some fps issues.

I always found it funny that the steams on twitch had smoother fps then my own gameplay experience.

and if I upgrade ill think ill just cash out and get a 970 or 980 and get it over with.

Well you have to understand that when you watch a stream on twitch you are not loading in all the graphical models and gameplay mechanics that the streamer is. You are simply watching a video!

If you want something that'll last a long time and your Power Supply Unit can take it, I advise you taking that move. It is the wisest.

I was just wondering how low your fps dropped on the division beta because sweclockers made some testing and got a min of 31 fps and an average of 42 fps with a 380
