Hi
Now I've been having this issue where my internet on my PC will go to local access only, anad to fix it I have to unplug the dongle from my PC. The dongle is connect to my PC via an USB extention cable. The reason for this is that I am on the 2nd floor and the router is on the first floor. When the dongle is connected directly to my PC I get a massive dip in both speed and strength. Now, I TODAY switched the cable with another one and it still happened. The reason why I thought it was the cable is that when Im at my brothers place I have no need for the cable and just plug the dongle directly in the PC. NEVER HAPPEN THEN. I think my logic was reasonable to suspect the cable, but with a 2nd one and still the issue, well... I have no idea what it can be.
Its annoying because its happened atleast 3 times today, maybe more, and atleast 7 times yesterday. Funny enough, sometimes it dont happen for over a week.

The dip in speed and strength could possibly be due to distance from the router.
You may want to take a peek at your power settings. If it is a USB Dongle there is a high chance your computer is switching it off after a while.

I agree with IcyCaress. Does it happen at doing the same thing? Like you leave for a few minutes and then come back and it doesn't work? Or something different?

Okay, so looking under the power management of the dongle it has "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" or something along those lines, I have to translating it. Im guessing I should uncheck it, but... I want to hear from you first before I do anything. I still dont understand why using a USB extention cable would cause the computer to turn it off.

so what this will do, is if you have a USB device it is going to be powered on the USB cord. This will draw power from the computer and if you aren't using that USB device (say your WiFi isn't sending or receiving) then it will shut it off until there is need. In your case what might be happening is that it shuts it off, but nothing can flag it to turn on again, until you unplug/re plug it in so that the computer sees it again. This is mainly for laptops, but it is worth a shot to disable it.

So I turned off it. But it still happened. Do I have to restart my PC first?

looking at it online there is a pretty good thread about it. Talks about the length of the extender and how to best position the device.

So the day I turned off the power thing it still happened. But today (The end of the day for me) it has not happened a single time. That doesnt mean its fixed, it could go days without it happening, BUT it was being somewhat happening a lot recently. So, Im gonna assume I needed to restart my PC for the changes to kick in and just simply wait and see (Thats the worst with issues that seem to happen at random, you cant be 100 % sure if they're fixed, you just get more sure each day without problem) *Crosses fingers* *Crosses toes* *Crosses arms and legs* *Turns myself into a human pretzel in an attempt to cross every part of my body*
