A keyboard and mouse are ok for fps games, but for games like Dark Souls I want to get a controller. Whats a good cheap controller to get for PC? I know opinions vary so please keep it civil.

At the moment I think a classic Xbox 360 controller is good for any games on pc which are preferable to play with a gamepad.

Personnally I change my xbox 360 pad for a Razer Wildcat and this pad is AWESOME ! ( but too much expensive I guess... )

I use an Xbox 1 controller at home, it works great for DS as well as other games (Lego Star Wars).

Depends on if you prefer the feel of a playstation or xbox controller. Pick one and get a last gen controller of that kind. I use a PS3 controller, but that needs special drivers to work. Plus most games expect an xbox controller and show buttons for it (Dark Souls does this). So if feel doesn't matter, get an xbox 360 controller.

Hey Vader,

In my opinion, spend a few bucks more in a xbox one controller. I'm playing DS3 using this one and it is fantastic. You could always buy an xbox 360 instead. Either way, fits perfectly and I guarantee you that it is worth the price. I would say that other options on the market are not as ergonomic as this one or not as well designed for your hands. You're going to spend hours and hours playing anyway so....

The standard wired 360 controller is relatively cheep and your best bet for a PC controller, seeing as pretty much all games on PC that allow use of a controller will use the XBox buttons in the prompts and it's just plug and play.

The wireless 360 controller is a bit more expensive, since you have to actually find the package with the dongle (I think mine was like $60 from BestBuy).

As others have mentioned, you can just use a Playstation or Xbox controller. One not mentioned that is very good is the Nintendo pro controller.

I had a wired 360 controller for years which I replaced last year with an Xbone controller.

I actually prefer the feel of the original 360 pad - you could probably pick them up pretty cheap second hand or in sales.

I am actually using a PS3 controller if that might be something you would like to do. All I had to do was download a program called DS3 Tool and start that up before I open a game. Been working great for me.

Just want to confirm that a regular Xbox 360 wired controller (which is quite some years old in my case) works fantastic on Dark Souls III. Don't see the need to get an Xbox One controller myself (yet).
You only have to plug it in the PC and Windows 10 immediatly accepts the device.

I agree with darth_aina the old Xbox 360 wired controller is my go to on any game that needs it. I also have the Steam controller but I usually end back up with the 360.

I used to use the Logitech F310 before I started using my Xbox elite controller for my PC games. It's cheap and gets the job done. It has a similar layout to the Playstation controllers but doesn't require extra software to run. Plug and play baby!

I personally bought my controller from amazon, it was the cheapest thing they had ($15) and has been working fine forever. If you want to play FPS games on PC I wouldn't recommend using a controller. Usually FPS PC games are competitive and generally speaking mouse and keyboard has more accuracy. :)

go with the xbox360 controller for PC. Iv tried several others but the situation usually ends up with bad button/joystick controller mapping - every manufacturer has its own idea how to map their buttons, even if the controller is pretty the same.
