Building fiction atop established fiction, Deadfall Adventures uses the name and legacy of classic fictional explorer Allan Quatermain – created by author H. Rider Haggard for his 1885 novel King Solomon's Mines, and later employed by Alan Moore in his The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen comics – to tell a fresh, World War II-set tale featuring the literary hero's great-grandson, James Lee Quatermain.

While this century-plus-old hook allows developer The Farm 51 to claim some classic heritage, and mention in marketing materials that the elder Quatermain served as an inspiration for Indiana Jones, the resulting first-person shooter mostly feels like a game created in the wake of Naughty Dog's Uncharted series.
