I was involved in a small discussion earlier today on Cohh's channel in regards to Gamer Glasses. Someone eventually got there message read by Cohh which was "All glasses block blue light". This got me tilted, because not only is this wrong, it is dangerous.

Gamer glasses are popular because they have a yellow/orange tint that helps block some (usually 10-20%) of Blue light. Blue light is on the spectrum directly next to UV rays. More and more research is being done on the harmful effects of Blue light. Over exposure to Blue light can lead to Retinal and Central Vision issues like Macular Degeneration.

Unfortunately, not all glasses block blue light. In fact most standard prescription glasses do not. In order to get Blue light blockers on your lenses, you need to buy specific anti-reflective coating that states it has it. (not all coatings are made equal, so you should ask exactly how much blue light that coating blocks. the good stuff blocks 20%). Or buy digital lenses made by Zeiss or Varilux. Most of their Progressive lenses that are Digital have a 10% Blue light block rate. The other option is Transitions Brand Photochromic lenses. This also blocks about 10%.

It is important to know that not all glasses you buy have this protection, and some lower end stores will tell you they do without actually providing you with it. The best protection you have to make sure you get great glasses for computer use is to go to a reputable retailer. DO NOT buy your glasses online, unless you can verify the quality of their product. DO NOT go to places like Visionworks or Walmart that you can buy 2 glasses for $50. The quality of these lenses is sub-par and usually based off 15-20 year old technology. When it comes to your eyes you only have two and they don't grow back. Protect yourself.
