An unofficial software development kit has been released this week for Tribes: Ascend, raising questions of how developer Hi-Rez Studios will respond to the community's attempts to sustain the game.
The SDK, which was posted on Reddit earlier this week, is now fully working, unlike a previously released version. With it, community members can modify aspects of the game and host servers without making use of Hi-Rez's master server.
This is important because Hi-Rez announced in July that Ascend -- a free-to-play FPS released last year -- would not receive any major updates for at least six months. Since that time, there have few encouraging signs of that changing as the developer instead focuses its efforts on Smite, though it did announce it would add support for mods and user-made maps.
