Game developers are overwhelmingly interested in creating their next projects without the help of a publisher, according to a poll conducted at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) last March.
The State of the Industry Survey – through which more than 2,600 North American game developers were polled – revealed that only 19 percent are interested in working with a publisher for their next project, compared to 64 percent who said they wish to self-publish their next project.
The survey also revealed that self-funding among developers is growing: 52 percent polled said that at least a portion of their funding comes from their company, but 46 percent contribute their personal funds to projects - a 9 percent increase from last year. A small amount of developers (11 percent) utilize crowdsourcing, up 7 percent from last year.
